About
Built to replace a tool we were already paying for and still had to work around.
PayFolk started inside one company, not a slide deck. Our own HR team ran payroll every month on a tool built for a different market, patched it with spreadsheets where it fell short, and paid for the privilege. This product exists because that was worth fixing properly rather than working around again.
One person, building for Pakistan from the first line
There is no team here yet, and no office to point to. One person builds PayFolk, which is a constraint, not a marketing line: it means every decision favours what is boring and verifiable over what is clever, and what will still make sense read again in six months. Pakistan was never a market to expand into later. EOBI, PESSI and SESSI, the July to June fiscal year, province-dependent minimum wage, and staff who sign in with a company-assigned address because they have never needed a personal one: all of it was there from the first commit, not bolted on afterward.
Boring on purpose
A payroll product asks a company to trust it with real money and real compliance. That trust is earned with choices nobody notices when they work, which is exactly the point.
Money as whole paisa
Never a float. SQLite has no decimal type, and a payroll product that rounds inconsistently loses an argument with an employee it should never have started.
A locked run stays locked
Once a payroll run is finalised it is never edited again. A correction is a new run, on the record, so a payslip someone already holds on paper never quietly disagrees with what the system says today.
Isolation, proven, not assumed
Every company's data is kept apart at the data layer, and an automated test suite fails the build the moment a query is written without it. The rule is enforced by tooling, not by remembering.
Early, and honest about it
PayFolk is a young, focused product built by one person, not a large team with years of releases behind it. For infrastructure that touches real salaries and real compliance, that is a fact worth stating plainly rather than dressing up: it means direct attention to every company that comes on board, and it means the product is still growing one deliberate decision at a time, in the open, rather than pretending to be something it is not yet.
If your payroll runs on spreadsheets and patience, tell us about it.
We review every request ourselves and get back to you before anything is created.
